The scientific name of the brake hub is the brake drum, or brake drum for short. It is the main component of the drum brake system. When braking, the friction between the inner surface of the brake drum and the brake pads acts as a brake. Its manufacturing material is generally gray iron model HT250. In the case of improper use of vehicle parts by the driver or severe overload, the brake hub can be damaged by fragmentation, which often causes personal injury during high-speed driving.

The brake drum is an important part of the drum brake system. The inner surface of the brake drum of the drum brake is the position where the brake device generates the braking torque. In the case of obtaining the same braking torque, the diameter of the brake drum of the drum brake device can be much smaller than that of the disc brake. Therefore, in order to obtain strong braking force, large-scale vehicles with heavy loads can only install drum brakes in the limited space of the rim. Drum brake systems are generally installed on the rear wheels of large vehicles.

Brake drum repair

When the wear of the brake drum reaches the limit value (for example, the limit value of the brake drum with a diameter of 180mm is φ180mm), the brake drum should be replaced.

Carefully clean and check the wear, damage and dimensional tolerances of the brake drum and wheel bolts, and whether the inner surface of the brake drum is in good condition. If any problem is found, replace it with a new one.

After the brake drum is repaired, fill the hub with multi-purpose grease.
